with Jim Williams video.linear.com Linear regulators are commonly employed to post-regulate switching regulator outputs. Benefits include improved stability, accuracy, transient response and lowered output impedance. Ideally, these performance gains would be accompanied by markedly reduced switching regulator generated ripple and spikes. In practice, all linear regulators encounter some difficulty with ripple and spikes, particularly as frequency rises. This video, excerpted from LTC Application Note 101, explains the causes of linear regulators' dynamic limitations and presents board level techniques for measuring and improving ripple and spike rejection.

This is a short video of the early testing of my new GAVR-15 AVR on my ST-10 Generator. You can see clearly it self starts easily with no capacitor or ballast required. The voltage regulation is nothing short of excellent, even handling a large bank of fluorescent lights on their own with no noticeable flickering. The other regulators I have tested have all needed an additional load such as a heater or similar before they could make a stable voltage while running these lights. This shows how well filtered this regulator's circuits are.

Power Failures

Power FailuresWe can recently hear the word combination "power failure" quite often. But what kind of failures are there? How are they different? Let's try and look into it.The first and most common power failure is brownouts, that is short-term voltage depressions associated with a rapid increase of load in the network caused by connection of powerful consumers, such as, industrial equipment, elevators, etc. This is the most common failure in a power network. Such failures may result in overloads of power supply units, disconnection of devices, failure of electric motors, data loss in computers. High-voltage pulses - short-term (nanoseconds or microseconds) significant increase in voltage caused by a close lightning discharge or supply of voltage at the substation after an accident. High-voltage pulses may result in failure of equipment sensitive to the quality of power supply.Complete power outage is a result of an accident, lightning discharge, significant overloads at substations. This usually results in data loss in computers and failure of hard drives.Excessive voltage - short-term increase of voltage associated with disconnection of powerful consumers or with the total underload in the network. Results in failure of equipment and emergency outage of equipment with data loss in computers.Unstable frequency is a result of strong overloads of the energy system as a whole. The change in frequency in itself does not imply any significant danger. But it could lead to ...

Its just as simple as adding a resonant capacitor across the primary of the flyback (in my case it was about .20uF) and adding an inductor of some kind in series with the + and the primary of the flyback. The next step is a half bridge. But thats after I get my second breadboard. All I need to do now, is get my breadboard, add a 12 volt regulator for the 555 timer, and get a .22uF capacitor *more than 250 volts!!!*

Phase 1 of G3020 Software Defined Radio. This small clip shows the +5V power supply in action after completing phase 1, not a very exciting phase of the build but a very important one, unless this stage is working properly non of the IC's on the board will get there proper +5 volts they need. The circuit uses the popular 7805 5 volt regulator to take 12+ volts down to around +5 volts for the IC's. When this phase is working correctly the green led should light and the voltage jk1 jumper test point should be around +5V

This is a video showing you how to strip a technics 1200/1210 back to its face plate. The reason for doing something like this is either to pain the face plate or to replace it, in either case stripping the turntable back to the face plate is required. Just as an experiment I phoned my local electronics repair shop to get a quote on how much he would charge to do this and he said 20 quid setup charge 40 quid to strip it and 60 quid to put it back together 120 QUID !!!!!!! Thats like 170 dollars I could buy a second hand turntable for that alternatively 85 quid to simply change the face plate thats like 120 dollars, so you are defiantly saving a bomb by doing this yourself. Its not massively difficult you just have to have your head screwed on and pay close attention to where all the bits went, if you think about it the main circuit board, the power circuit board, and the transformer are all joined so youre not going to put them back in the wrong place and you know where the tone arm goes and the pitch fader, and if you have ever switched on a technics turntable you will know where the power switch is, so you cant really go wrong. Information. When soldering on these turntables especially the older models leaded solder is normally used so keep your soldering tip clean after soldering, and mind your fingers because sometimes leaded solder can bubble and it spits and itll burn your fingers. This link is for more detail on removing the screws from the bottom of the turntable ...

Solid-state optoelectronic relay. Operational principleSolid-state optoelectronic relay is an electronic component used for switching electronic circuits. It provides electric insulation between check circuits, mostly between power circuits. All solid-state optoelectronic relays ensure a non-contact switching of load circuits due to the possibility of controlling its built-in semiconductor elements. This provides a number of advantages if compared with regular electromagnetic relays. So here is a design of solid-state relay. LED of input optical coupler acts as initial input element of an optical relay. Then there is also optical isolation, photovoltaic commutation, a switching circuit, and a protected output key. There is an LED in control circuit which transforms the flowing current into infrared radiation. Infrared light travels a certain distance in the casing, and falls onto the matrix of photogalvanic cells. Then it transforms light from the matrix into voltage which is used to control the element which locks the output key.If there is no current flow at the beginning of the circuit then there is no voltage and output key will open a commutation circuit.AC optorelay has a symistor at its output. It is peculiar in a way that the output key unlocks at a moment when switched circuit voltage goes through a zero. A bipolar or MOS transistor is used as output key in DC optorelays.A pair of source-connected MOS or IGBT transistors is used as a key in general-purpose relays ...

Thursday, November 10, 2011

I volunteered as a medical equipment technician-- doing repairs on the medical equipment, taking inventory of all the equipment, and also doing a needs assessment. The broken GE X-ray was by far the most important repair-- a simple burnt light bulb was enough to make the X-ray machine unusable. The bulb was 24-V, and unavailable in Tanzania. This bulb is what I use for my desk lamp, and can be found anywhere in the US. So, my partner and I decided to connect two 12-V lightbulbs (which we found from a Tanzanian hardware store) in series. Voltage in series adds, allowing for the net of 24-V. Also, because the machine is American, the Tanzanain 220-V outlet was too much, and blew the machine (even though we used a voltage regulator!). We contacted a Tanzanian biomedical engineer (one of six in the entire nation), and obtained a higher resistance veristor. This replacement allowed for the machine to work and protect against any unstable surges. As soon as we repaired the machine, the radiologist used it to serve the long line of patients needing an X-ray.

The heart of the LED chaser is the PIC 16F628A microcontroller, IC2. The program that runs on this chip controls the LEDs attached to the output port pins. Resistors R1 thru R8 limit the current through LED1 - LED8 to a safe level that won't damage the PICs I/O ports or LEDs. Resistor R9 provides a pull-up for the input connected to switch S1. R10 holds the PICs MCLR reset signal high. Capacitor C1 is used to decouple the 5 volt power supply to the PIC. The voltage regulator used is a LM2931-5.0, low-drop-out regulator and will maintain regulation with an input voltage down to 6 volts. Input voltage for the LED chaser should be between 6 volts and 14 volts to ensure power dissipation remains within limits. The LM2931-5.0 regulator is designed for battery powered and automotive applications and includes internal current limiting, thermal shutdown, as well as reverse battery connection without damage to itself or the circuit behind it. Capacitor C3 is important and must be fitted to prevent instability of the regulator output. i got this from: picprojects.biz

Cb750 Build with Su Carb

I bought this cb750 in a bunch of parts in 6 different boxes. Slowly putting together something i never took a part is what i have come to in the videos. It is about 2 months of building at this moment. I used a few different parts from different cars like the ignition coil from a dodge stratus, and an Su Carb off a British MG car. I had to weld up a new intake manifold for the carb. The wiring harness was destroyed after i got done putting the bike together, so I built my own on this bike.

This video continues from a previous video on setting up a simple battery power supply on a breadboard. This video uses a mains transformer 9V Power Supply Unit (PSU) that allows us to power circuits without the need of a battery. However, the supply is noisy and could lead to difficulties. A diode is added to protect the circuit from reverse connections. A switch is added to simplify usage. A PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) Transducer is added to protect the circuit from short connections and Capacitors are added to smooth the supply. We use the oscilloscope to examine the quality of the output supply.

This is a DIY solar powered USB charger with schematic that you can build to charge your ipod, blackberry, iphone, camera, or any other electronic device that you can plug into a USB port. There are 2 (in quantity) 5 volt solar panels connected in parallel to a 12000 uF capacitor. The positive is then connected to pin 1 of the voltage regulator (low dropout), pin 2 connected to ground. Pin 3 and ground are then connected in parallel with a 470uF cap, which is then connected to the USB port.

I thought it might be helpful to see how the Relay installs on the TM Series markers. The v1 TM-7 has an Air Transfer Tube that adds some complexity/problems to the install, so you might consider purchasing the latest version when you buy the Relay. The TM-15 is a much easier installation following the included instructions.

According to FEMA electrical fires kill almost 500 people and injure over 2000 more. Most are caused by poor maintenance of electrical appliances, incorrectly installed wiring, overloaded circuits and extension cords. The holiday season is quickly approaching when we all start to decorate and use our electronics more heavily. In fact, I have already seen Halloween decorations in many neighborhoods. This is a very relevant topic as December is the most dangerous month for electrical fires. I have made 3 quick tips that you can try that could protect your precious electronics and perhaps even your life. 1) Don't Daisy Chain Power strips This is more common than you think. Daisy chaining power strips is when you plug one power strip into the other. I'm not sure why but most people feel comfortable doing this but it is a bad practice. Daisy chaining results in a spread of the potential surge overload across both strips evenly. Where an overload of X size would trip one power strip, when two are connected 2X the overload is required to cause a trip to occur and so on. In short this practice puts everything you plug into the power strips at risk. It's just not worth it when a good quality extension cord can solve the problem. 2) UPS for Desktop Computer Power surges and brown conditions can burn out computer power supplies and even cook the computer all together. At minimum a new computer power supply is around $100 to replace and if your computer gets fried, well then there's ...

First of all, for the observant I must say that I did use a non deepcycle battery, but it was free and this project is still at the experimental stage, I'm not even sure how long the brown wooden box will last or the handheld generator or those kitchen spoons, but time will tell. This run of the river project is insanely inefficient mainly because of the half inch hose, which should really be 90 feet of 1 inch PVC, but the materials were easily acquired and installed. After I've watched this project for a while I'll more than likely upgrade the main components as they breakdown. Also it's really important to add a fuse or a low amperage breaker at one of the battery terminals simply because the odds of a mouse chewing through the wires or a tree falling over them in the next 10 years is huge. Most of these batteries can put out enough cold cranking amps to catch any log cabin on fire or create a forest fire. The hand generator only makes about 3-5 watts of hydro electricity per hour and therefore does not need a voltage regulator but is just directly hooked up to the 12v battery and functions very much like a trickle charger does. A DC to AC inverter may be hooked up to the battery terminals if you want house voltage, though I recommend attaching a switch to it in order to turn the inverter off when it's not being used in order to save power. The funny thing is that most of my electricity needs are 12vdc, including that 13watt CFL bulb so I might never hook up the ...

This is a how to DIY video that will teach you to make a 5 volt flashlight Mod for the Joye 510 electronic cigarette. The mod I teach you how to make I call the "Detonator" iut is a consistant 5 volts. Every time you vape the 2 cr123a batteries give you exactly 5 volt because of the inline voltage regulator. Other e-cigarette mods deliver 6 volt or more then slowly drop off as you use the PV, every hit the batteries become weaker and weaker slowly giving a lesser satisfying hit during use. The Detonator operates consistantly at 5 volt for the entire life of the rechargable protected cr123a batteries. This Detonator in the video has a red LED lit when the power is On and a blinking green LED when the attomizer is being powered. I take you through the process of making a 5 volt Detonator step by step, so that you can make your own. For those that don't want to make there own I will make one for you- just contact me for details.

I'll just mention again that if you own or can borrow most any functioning Ignition coil and 2 spark plug wires off a car or truck, you could use them to test start your engine. I've expanded below how to wire up the coils + and - wires. Then all you'd have to do is rig both spark plug wires together into your coils single output. Your engines original coil fired both spark plugs simultaneously just like this, it just had dual spark plug wire outputs. Ok cool, its a 77. Below is the correct 1977 schematic and I've updated my wiring identification info from my previous post: 1- Rectifier ground wire (I'd connect this to the same location your negative battery cable bolts to the engine) 2- Rectifier power feed (connects to + side of battery) 3- Rectifier. (It converts A/C to D/C voltage) 4, 5 and 6 are the three AC-voltage legs coming from your engines charging coil. (looks like that plug just went bad and they bypassed 2 of the wires around it) For now your engine would start and run fine without #1 through 6 or #12 connected. (they're all just to charge ...
