Today's video is about our favorite Bus Pirate features. Voltage measurements with the Bus Pirate ADC pin are easier than working with a separate multimeter on an analog project. The up/down scrolling history recalls previously entered commands so you don't have to type them again. I2C and 1-Wire address scanners find chip addressed by brute force, so you don't have to reach for the datasheet. Our smoke tests are done with the Bus Pirate on-board 3.3volt and 5.0volt power supplies. The regulator has current projection, and the Bus Pirate monitors for a short circuit. If the voltage is too low the Bus Pirate disables the supplies and shows a warning. The tiny amount of time the board was powered will hopefully reducing the damage done by short circuits. dangerousprototypes.com

Charge Controllers are used to maintain batteries within specified limits that prevent over-voltage and under-voltage conditions. they basically keep batteries healthy and they may be used with wind generators or photovoltaic panels. A basic solar charge controller connected with a battery and PV panel and drainback pump can be built for less than $10 worth of parts.

AC Time Delay Circuit

Test for the AC Time Delay circuit using Triacs electroschematics.com The C1 capacitor will charge up gradually through the R1 resistor until the voltage across the capacitor reaches the threshold voltage of the thyristor (Vc1=0.7V). The voltage across the capacitor, Vc1 at any instant in time during the charging period is given as: Vc1 = Vs[1 -- e^(-t/RC) ] Vs= the peak supply voltage If we use 230 Vac, the peak voltage is therefore 230* 1.41, which is about 325 V. Do the math and obtain 70ms time delay. Later the triac turn on for Vc2 = Vgt +Igt*R3 ~ 4V Second time delay ~ 270 ms In theory the total time delay = 70+270= 340ms In practice tested using BT139, TIC206M, TIC216M, TIC226M, BTA16. No succes for TIC226M, BTA16. Time delay for : BT139 ~ 3-4 s TIC206M ~0.3 s TIC216M ~ 0.5-0.6s We have measured the illumination on a work table for the 100W light bulb. Ambient illumination =70 lux, typical illumination for light bulb power supply direct connection =1100 lux. Using BT139 ~300 lux TIC206 ~ 1100 lux TIC216M ~450 lux

Today we discharge 5.5kV 50uf into film capacitors, electrolytics, resistors, LEDs, surge protectors, 7805 regulator, power transistor, and a LED array from a dead flashlight. Nothing survives this kind of overload. The capacitors go off with quite a bang, they rip apart. The red LEDs disintegrate so quickly that there is nothing to show in slow motion. A small ferrite inductor had the coil blown clean off it with no harm to the core.

This video shows the troubleshooting and repair (?) of the Leader LG-1311 Function Generator that was shown in a previous video. The previous video showed how the problem with this function generator could have been mistaken for a trigger problem on the scope. The generator had a problem with a low level, high frequency oscillation that was riding on top of the function generator output. The video briefly shows the process I followed to narrow the problem down, identify the offending circuit, and the result of the "repair". I put "repair" in quotation marks because the "fix" involved changing the original design. So, it is still possible that there is another underlying problem that was alleviated by altering the design slightly.

Chargery Power, a Chinese electronics company, was kind enough to provide me with one of their new power supplies to test it. In my test, it worked very well! The output voltage is very stable, and the overcurrent protection reduces the output voltage, instead of switching it of. A nice feature! The noise from the fans is not that lout, I expected more noise from a unit of that output. All in all, I am very pleased, and can definitely recommend the Chargery S1200.

Ladies and gentleman here is Max Miller from Ohio again. He is doing an excellent work with the replication of Stanley Meyer's work. Video and text from Max Millers Channel - www.youtube.com This is a simple power regulater input of 14 volts......as high as 37 volts...... is regulated down to 12 volts and 5 volts easy for a biginer to assemble with your kids most circuits are 12 volt or 5 volts, this unit regulates your voltage so the circuit will not melt from to much voltage the regulators have automatic shut down if over heated or over amped regulated voltage is 12 volts and 5 volts from AC 14 or more volts or DC 14 or more volts these are 1.5 amp chips.....double them for 3 amps common use is powering circuits you are prototyping or even senstive electronics in your car you can power your sensitive PWM main board, mosfet switches for HHO would not go through this circuit but this circuit would protect the PWM main board

This is a tutorial about making an Arduino board on a breadboard! It is useful to be able to do this as its much cheaper once you have the infrastructure to use it (cables, tools ect...) and if it breaks a replacement isn't that expensive. UPDATE (9/12/11): When actually implementing the circuit in my laser project, I uncovered several problems. I was going to have the output connected to a voltage regulator inhibit pin. Because the datasheet was so vague, I thought that the regulator was off when that pin is high. I was wrong. I had to place a mosfet on the output to invert the signal. Doing that caused another problem. The opamp's output voltage was too high (~2.5v) in the off state causing the mosfet to stay on. I had to increase the resistance on the feedback which also required that I change the resistor for the zener diode. Note that different opamps can behave very differently based on their specifications. Be sure to use the same opamp in your final build as the one you used for testing. LTSpice schematic files can be found on my blog: patheticcomputing.com In this video, I explore several different circuits and solutions to the problem of low battery voltage cutoff. I also explain zener diodes, Schmitt triggers, and hysteresis. Near the end of the video, I show an actual breadboarded circuit and show how to find the correct resistor values through experimentation.

Another awesome rebuilt completed here at Rafee Corvair: this 1964 got upgraded with a 260 Isky cam, .030 oversized pistons, another up grade was the addition of external alternator with internal regulator, to replace the old, bulky generator....many folks wonder about the advantages of replacing the stock generator by an alternator: well, let me tell you: 1, you get rid of the bulky generator; 2, you get rid of the voltage regulator in the firewall; 3, the alternator comes with an internal regulator and is a 65 amp, therefore generating more juice for your headlights, stereo, and other electrical goodies that you like to add to your ride....The conversion kit is available at www.rafeecorvair.com, along with a tutorial in the "tech tips" section on the install. The kit comes complete ...a one-time investment, well worth it! You can easily install it yourself, Rafman will gladly walk you through it if you need additional help. Just call me at 918-753-2486 with any questions you might have. Keep them rolling, peace out!
