There are numerous clock projects which use Atmel AVR microcontrollers, but few use the Atmega48, and of the few that do, all are programmed in C or Assembly language (or using the Arduino IDE). I am too lazy to program in assembly language ... been there, done that for 15 years. I never learned C, and don't feel like learning the Arduino stuff, so BASCOM (compiled basic from MCS Electronics) is the AVR programming language of choice, for me. For more about BASCOM AVR see www.MCSelec.com Something I did NOT want in a simple clock was any I2C real time clock peripherals from Dallas, NXP (or others), batteries and crystals. In the big clock I slapped together, real time is kept within the AVR via BASCOM firmware, and is accurate to the 60hz AC line (USA). There are ZERO quartz crystals used in this project. Displays are IEE2352E, similar to Lumex LDS-AD16RI but the IEE2352E have one less diode per segment for a lower forward voltage drop per segment. This is important because it allows the entire clock to function from same +5 volts as the Atmel microcontroller and direct drive the digit's segments from the MCU pins without level shifters (unusual for any clock with digits this tall). The 57mm 7 segment LEDs are driven directly from the AVR chip, sinking an average 25 mA per segment with very acceptable brightness. This clock may be powered from a computer's USB port as a GewGaw. When my firmware detects the absence of the 60hz AC line time base, it automatically reverts to ...

This is my little voltage regulator based on LM317T with heatsink because it receives a lot of current. It controls the main fan and the CPU fan added on the heatsink cut.

How to strip a technics 1200/1210 back to its face plate for painting or replacing. part 4
0 comments Posted by shopping-team at 7:15 AMThis is a video showing you how to strip a technics 1200/1210 back to its face plate. The reason for doing something like this is either to pain the face plate or to replace it, in either case stripping the turntable back to the face plate is required. Just as an experiment I phoned my local electronics repair shop to get a quote on how much he would charge to do this and he said 20 quid setup charge 40 quid to strip it and 60 quid to put it back together 120 QUID !!!!!!! Thats like 170 dollars I could buy a second hand turntable for that alternatively 85 quid to simply change the face plate thats like 120 dollars, so you are defiantly saving a bomb by doing this yourself. Its not massively difficult you just have to have your head screwed on and pay close attention to where all the bits went, if you think about it the main circuit board, the power circuit board, and the transformer are all joined so youre not going to put them back in the wrong place and you know where the tone arm goes and the pitch fader, and if you have ever switched on a technics turntable you will know where the power switch is, so you cant really go wrong. Information. When soldering on these turntables especially the older models leaded solder is normally used so keep your soldering tip clean after soldering, and mind your fingers because sometimes leaded solder can bubble and it spits and itll burn your fingers. This link is for more detail on removing the screws from the bottom of the turntable ...

Trashpicked CRT TV with the shakes (Excessive B+ voltage)
0 comments Posted by shopping-team at 3:45 AMPicked up a M&S 20 inch TV from the garbage last week and since I was with a friend I lugged it home. It didn't turn on but I could hear the main relay clicking inside when I pushed the power button, so it was clear that there was standby voltage but no B+ This TV sports a very prehistoric power supply design, using a STR50103 linear voltage regulator with a honking power resistor in series in order to step down and regulate the incoming rectified and filtered line voltage. No transformer here. Turns out that a 470k 1/2 W resistor was open and the 130V protection diode was shorted and disconnected from the circuit, replacing the resistor got the TV working again but with a craptastic picture and the shaking you see in the video. The higher the brightness of the picture content, the stronger the shaking. Replacing a couple of electrolytic capacitors around the flyback area improved the picture considerably. As for the shakes, it turns out the regulator was defective, providing an excessive B+ of 125 V while the nominal value for this particular regulator is only 103 V. Needless to say, replacing the regulator got me a correct B+ and that stopped the shaking altogether. After adjusting the static convergence and the cathode levels I got a much improved picture, almost perfect from a TV that was salvaged from the scrap heap. 2011 Update: Since then I have rejuvenated the CRT by hooking up the cathodes directly to the 220V mains with a 15W light bulb in series while powering ...

LR1100 Power ConditionerGreat. It all works... LR1100 power conditioner combines two devices - a voltage regulator and a power supply filter. Voltage regulator is a device which automatically converts the current increased or reduced voltage into stable 220 V. Such device protects audio and video appliances, personal computers, computer peripheral devices, office equipment, and home appliances against reduced or increased supply voltage, overvoltage, surge voltage, and high-frequency interferences. Home electronics are designed to work from supply voltage of 220-230 V. But true voltage in the network often fluctuates from 150 to 260 V. In the evening a power grid experiences the biggest load, thus voltage is minimal. There are different reasons for voltage steps. This can be network overload, old transformers, and wrong wiring. LR1100 power conditioner will help you solve these problems. The device has several advantages over other appliances. It has an extended voltage regulation range, an emergency 2-level shutdown system, an increased suppression of pulse and high-frequency interferences, a 2-level current protection, and increased overload capacity. Here is what we have on the front panel of LR1100. A power switch with an indicating light - the LED which indicates proper operation. There is also a thermobimetallic protector which automatically cuts off the device from a power grid in case of exceeding current consumption. And there is also an indicator of input and ...

Nowadays it is hard to find a radio-electronic device without a stabilized power supply. In most cases this function is performed by the integral voltage stabilizer, an IC. The list of industrially produced integrated voltage stabilizers is quite long, and they differ in many parameters, for example, in the operation principle (linear and impulse), in the output voltage (positive and negative, fixed and variable output voltage value), power and many other parameters.
