I converted an old PW caboose to LED lighting to get rid of any flicker going over dirty track or turnouts. I also wanted constant lighting at all speeds and voltages without the caboose looking like a traveling lighthouse beacon. I also wanted to make sure no heat was generated inside the caboose and all components were cool to the touch. I have successfully accomplished all my goals with this conversion. Alternatively, I could have also incorporated an voltage regulator and increased the LED brightness with smaller resistors while maintaining the fade, but this was the simplest design. and has fewer components.
