Please read! Capacitor bank charger. 2180uF 330v (max, I only charge to 310v to leave for some safety overhead). Diagram farm8.staticflickr.com I am rectifying the transformers AC output using 4x UF4007 diodes in a bridge rectifier configuration. I tried using a packaged bridge rectifier out of an old PSU but it did not work very well becuase of the high frequency's involved with this driver. The UF4007's are fast recovery and can take up-to 1kV before they breakdown. This 700MB video took me 12 hours to upload! Points of interest: Transformer testing 1:44 Some high current arcs 3:34 Capacitor bank charging 5:55 Timing the time it takes to charge the bank 7:12 Blowing a hole into a soda can 7:57 Review 8:27 I am sorry about the cracking audio whenever there is a loud point. This was caused by my attempt to make my voice sound louder, which it did but it also caused the peaks in the audio track to become too high. Combined with how youtube seems to boost audio too it ruins the audio. I guess all I can do now is learn from this mistake and not do it again!

Part 1 Click here for part 2: (READ MORE) www.youtube.com www.driverstorer.com DS tests the Harbor Freight 1.5 watt amorphous solar panel- solar battery charger kit. Chicago Electric Power Systems Article link: www.driverstorer.com For use with auto, marine, ATV, and other trickle charge applications Don't forget to hit subscribe! DS briefly runs through a series of current and voltage tests on the Harbor Freight 1.5 amorphous watt solar battery charger kit. The harbor freight amorphous solar battery charger kit includes: *One mountable solar panel with hard plastic bezel measuring 14-3/4" L x 6-1/2" W x 7/8" thick *Detachable vehicle adapter with activity LED (12V) *Documentation Formulas used to calculate the wattage from the solar panel: Variables: V=Voltage I=Current R= Resistance W= Watts V=IR (ohms law) (to double check calculations) W=(I^2) R (reads: (watts = current squared * resistance)) Current measured (100 ohm resistor in series) 25 -- 35 mA Output wattage calculated in overcast skies (100 ohm resistor)= W@ 25mA= 0.0625 (62.5mW) W@ 35mA=0.1225 (122.5mW) W@ 120mA= 1.44 Assuming you reach the advertised max current from the solar panel of 120mA you seem to max out at 1.44 watts theoretically. This is close to the 1.5 watt rating of the solar panel, but slightly less. As a vehicle battery trickle charger, the Harbor Freight 1.5 watt amorphous solar panel- solar battery charger kit will work as advertised, however local conditions will always affect the efficiency ...

A list of solar panels and chargers can be found here: astore.amazon.com MPPT vs PWM Solar charger performance / MPPT Operation / How does MPPT work / What is MPPT There is a follow-up to this video that covers some questions raised about the amps. MPPT vs PWM Solar Charger - Follow-up In this video I switch between an MPPT and PWM solar charger to show how much power (Watts) can be "lost". This is due to the voltage being pulled down to the battery voltage by the PWM charger. The MPPT controller uses / tracks the best voltage output the solar panel can provide to ensure maximum power output. In this case I have two 50 watt panels connected in parallel that can be switched between the MPPT and PWM charger. Together they are producing about 3 amps at 19.49 volts; about 58 watts (MPPT controller). When I switch to the PWM controller the voltage drops to the battery voltage being charged, 12.2 volts at 3.3 amps; about 40 watts. A loss of 18 Watts!! That means a 31% gain in power using an MPPT controller. The MPPT still provides the battery with about 12-14 volts required for charging but with more amps. The gains will not always be that big; as the battery charge voltage gets higher, the gains are less. The MPPT will continually track the optimum voltage; as light and temperature change at the solar panel, so will the Maximum Power Point. Here is an excellent link to a DIY project and further MPPT explanation: www.timnolan.com

I made the world's first Altoids Smalls portable USB charger that uses a 9v battery as its power source. It also has special resistors for pin 2 and 3 to fool any device into thinking that it is charging from a wall outlet. The current reaches as high as 1amp, and it lets any device charge very fast. Components used are: Altoids Smalls tin, 9v battery, 2 100ohm resistors, 5v voltage regulator, switch, electrical tape, and a few very thin wires. Enjoy.

This is a DIY solar powered USB charger with schematic that you can build to charge your ipod, blackberry, iphone, camera, or any other electronic device that you can plug into a USB port. There are 2 (in quantity) 5 volt solar panels connected in parallel to a 12000 uF capacitor. The positive is then connected to pin 1 of the voltage regulator (low dropout), pin 2 connected to ground. Pin 3 and ground are then connected in parallel with a 470uF cap, which is then connected to the USB port.

A simple Circuit using 2X lm3914, a cheap transistor and a relay... and a few other bits. you can set the max charge voltage with a small preset potentiometer, when the set voltage has been reached the lm3914 Lights LED 18 (the first red one) and also sends a small base current to the transistor, which then powers the relay coil and turns the ZVS off. when the voltage drops below the set voltage or the capacitor is discharged the power to the relay coil stops and the charging begins again automatically :-D.The transformer is a core stripped from a flyback transformer, with a hand-wound primary and secondary, approx 4.5+4.5 primary turns and roughly 100 turns on the secondary) oh... and before anyone says anything.... (the ZVS is on the Normally Closed contact on the relay) the whole unit/ module/ circuit draws between 3-6A @ 12VDC. Thanks for watching!
